I’m really starting to enjoy these daily little drawings. When I did this project before I was attempting a pattern (or at least the start of) per day and I was too much, so I started to hate it. I’m enjoying these no pressure motifs.

Today I covered the page in a layer of gouache as the bleed through from yesterday’s brush markers was heavy. The motif is from my sketches for a ’clashing quilt’ pattern that I’ve been drawing this week, you can find it in my stories. The paint marker is not really that easy to get flowing on top of the gouache layer, so it’s a bit messy but that’s ok.

I have been thinking about motifs for a pattern inspired by quilts, and specifically motifs that clash as it’s this week’s brief on the course I’m doing. It has been really fun to play around with and I hope to show it when it’s done. Today’s drawing has a bit of a folk vibe and I’m thinking it might make it on to the mismatched pattern. Or it might make a nice border.

This week the focus is on geometric patterns, so I thought I’d bring that into this little ideation book. I’m loving the pop of that ‘Bengal Rose’ gouache paint. The ‘she shed’ becomes the ‘we shed’. I’m so pleased to have a work space again 🧡 We realised the back of the garden office was rotting…quite a bit, so needed to do some urgent repairs. It was a perfect time to have a clear out and a rearrange of the whole space. So we now have desks, which is soo needed as our house is tiny. Some pics of how rotten it was 😬
